Panda Support Center Hosts Holiday Carnival for Local Kids Mastering "7 Habits"

ORGANIZATION: Savannah Elementary School

DATE:

Nearly 500 Savannah Elementary School children in Rosemead, California filled the hallways of the Support Center on December 16th for the 9th Annual Holiday Carnival Celebration. The school celebrated two years of Lighthouse status in the Leader in Me program, a curriculum based on Stephen Covey's, “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.”

The students, who ranged from first through fourth grade, enjoyed a variety of carnival activities including a dance party, a snowball toss, a basketball game, face painting, photo booth and many more. The kids also enjoyed a catered lunch back at their school sponsored by Panda.

Cindy Chien, a fourth grade teacher, said that learning the “7 Habits” was something that was well-integrated not only into the students’ routines but the teachers’ and parents’ as well.

"We teach it in the classroom and the students go home and teach it to their parents,” said Cindy.“The parents were also taught '7 Habits' through workshops and letters sent home."

“It’s not even a lesson anymore. It’s something that we apply throughout the day.”

The Leader in Me program was developed to integrating timeless leadership principles for students with practical character and life skills relevant to today’s challenges.
