Books and A Bite: Reading with Panda Express
ORGANIZATION: Reading is Fundamental
DATE:
On Friday, May 3rd, the Rosemead, CA community came together in a celebration of literacy at the first ever “Books and A Bite: Family Literacy Night” presented by Panda Express. Nearly 300 families attended the event for a night full of activities in theme with the book Brave by Stacy McAnulty and a read aloud by Rosemead, CA Chief of Police Lieutenant Chris Kusayanagi.
Panda Restaurant Group volunteers helped administer the activities for the youth, which included creating bookmarks, designing superhero masks, and a photo booth. The night would not have been complete without the Panda prize wheel and a delicious Panda Express dinner that was prepared and served by Panda operators. A special thank you to store #1619 for providing the meals for the families.
At the end of the evening, each child got to choose three books to take home. In partnership with Panda Cares, the philanthropic arm of Panda Express, RIF has provided almost 70,000 books to more than 20,000 children across the country! By empowering youth to select their books and providing access to books Panda Cares and RIF help create a continuous focus on reading.
