| Details | On June 24th, the NC team supported the 2012 Summer Games hosted by Special Olympics Northern California by serving 2250 athletes and coaches. Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. In order to officially compete in a competition, participants must be at least 8 years old. This program gives the athletes continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrating courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other athletes and the community. Summer Games commenced on Friday 6/22 with opening ceremonies and competitions took place June 23 through June 24 at various facilities on the UC Davis campus. It is a championship event that is comprised of 4 different sports: track & field, aquatics, tennis and bocce.
This event brought together the Northern Cal Team, their family and friends, and Support Center associates while giving back to the community with their time, love and care. |
