19th Annual Panda Cares Charity Golf Invitational

DATE:

ORGANIZATIONS RECEIVING DONATIONS:
The Leader in Me, Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Methodist Hospital, City of Hope, Huntington Hospital and disaster relief efforts

Panda's business partners and associates joined Andrew and Peggy Cherng to raise $2.5 Million at the 19th Annual Panda Cares Foundation Charity Golf Invitational. Over 450 golfers, associates and guests, spent a beautiful day in Rancho Mirage, California and strengthened their connections to one another and to Panda’s culture of giving through golfing, dinner and participation in the silent and live auctions.

This year’s theme, “Sound of Hope,” linked our donation box program and the bell that thanks our guests who contribute in-store with Panda Cares' commitment to foster the spirit of giving. The money raised benefited numerous children at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), the pediatric departments at Methodist Hospital, City of Hope and Huntington Hospital, and The Leader in Me educational program.

About $100,000 of the funds raised went towards disaster relief efforts for Hurricane Maria.

“I am so appreciative of the passion for giving that the Panda family demonstrated," said Peggy Cherng. "They put their hearts and souls into this event. This event not only inspires our associates to see the value of giving back, but it also gives our business partners an opportunity to participate in the Panda culture of giving and invites them to support the work we are doing.”

Attendees learned first-hand the impact their donations have on children receiving treatment at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Jessical Frontela, mother of nine-year-old Jeremiah Succar, shared how money raised from organizations like Panda helped her son, who received cancer treatment at CHLA four years ago.

“I speak on behalf of so many parents, that CHLA reminded us that we are not alone and taught us how to care for our children,” said Jessica. “Because of donations like yours, you give kids a chance to fight for their lives in a kid-friendly and caring environment and with the most amazing medical team. I can’t thank Panda enough for the love and support they show CHLA.”

The night ended with each attendee receiving their very own red Panda Express bell, a reminder to our partners that every time they hear a bell sound at Panda stores, a child’s smile is found.
